By 1916, the first line of tanks were ready to be used on the battlefield, ushering in a new era of combat. Stopping the tactic of throwing men at the enemy in hopes that they would run out of bullets.

  1. Tanks completely revolutionized the way battles were fought and led to a much higher number of casualties. I never knew what the first tanks looked like, and that picture gave me some insight into just how crude and rudimentary they really were.

  2. An enormous, crawling metal beast on the battlefield would intimidate the enemy at new levels, especially the early models. The advancement of tank design, along with firepower and mobility, has made them a vital asset in combat for almost a century.

  3. Without takes who knows what war would be like. They are something helped cut down the casualties of allies. They can get into places that are hard for soldiers to get into and they help soldiers on the ground attack enemies from a farther distance.
